Bathroom Tiling & Waterproofing in Auckland

Watertight bathrooms, beautifully finished — waterproofed to code before a single tile is laid.

Looking for a bathroom tiler in Auckland who gets the hidden work right? Tarara Tiling is a family-owned business led by Marko, a Croatian master tiler with over 15 years’ experience. We tile and waterproof bathrooms, ensuites and wet rooms across Auckland — precise, watertight and finished to a standard you’ll still love in twenty years.

Watertight Bathrooms, Beautifully Finished

A bathroom is the hardest-working room in the house — and the least forgiving of shortcuts. Every day it faces water, steam and movement, so the work you can’t see matters as much as the tiles you can. We build bathrooms from the substrate up: properly prepared, PS3-approved waterproofing, then precise tiling with crisp grout lines and clean cuts. The result is a bathroom that stays watertight and looks immaculate for decades, not years.

PS3-Approved Waterproofing, Done First

Most bathroom failures aren’t tiling failures — they’re waterproofing failures. That’s why we treat it as the foundation of the job, not an afterthought.

Marko is an approved PS3 Producer Statement author, which means we can provide a Producer Statement (PS3) for eligible projects — formal assurance that your wet areas are waterproofed in accordance with the New Zealand Building Code and the manufacturer’s specifications. Showers, floors and walls are sealed and allowed to cure properly before any tile goes down.

Workmanship Guaranteed

Our bathrooms are backed by a 10-year workmanship guarantee, with manufacturer warranties on eligible waterproofing systems. We’re certified installers with ARDEX, Mapei and Surtec, members of TANZ, the Tile Council and Site Safe, and fully covered by public liability insurance. Trusted materials, installed to New Zealand industry standards.

Planning a Bathroom Renovation?

If you’re renovating a bathroom in Auckland, tiling and waterproofing are the parts that make or break the result — and that’s exactly what we specialise in. We work alongside your builder, plumber and designer (or recommend trusted trades if you need them), taking care of the waterproofing and tiling to a premium standard while everyone stays on programme. You get a specialist on the most critical part of the job, not a generalist juggling everything.

Our Bathroom Tiling Process, Step by Step

Every wet area is tiled the same careful way — sealed first, set out true, then finished by hand. There are no shortcuts and no rushing the parts that don’t show; the waterproofing and the prep are what make a bathroom last, long after the tiles catch the eye. 1

Free quote & advice

we visit, measure up, and talk through tiles, layout and finishes — with honest guidance on what will work in your space and your budget, not just the priciest option.

2

Prep & protection

floors and fixtures are covered and protected, and every surface is checked, cleaned and prepared so nothing is tiled over a problem.

3

PS3 waterproofing

wet areas are waterproofed to the New Zealand Building Code and left to cure fully before any tiling — the single most important step, and the one we never rush.

4

Setting the tiles

tiles are set out for even cuts, then laid by hand with careful attention to falls, level and straight grout lines — the detail you notice every day.

5

Grouting & sealing

we finish with colour-matched grout and fresh silicone to the wet edges, then a full clean-down so the room is ready to use.

6

Final walkthrough

we walk through the finished bathroom with you, check every cut, edge and seal, and hand it over spotless — and we stand behind our work.

Every bathroom we tile follows this same order, whether it’s a compact ensuite or a full designer wet room. It’s slower than cutting corners — and it’s why our bathrooms still look and perform years down the track.

Bathroom Tiling FAQs

How much does bathroom tiling cost in Auckland?

It depends on the size of the room, the tiles you choose and the amount of waterproofing and prep involved. The best way to know is a free, no-obligation quote — we’ll give you a clear, itemised price with no surprises.

How long does it take to tile a bathroom?

Most bathrooms take around one to two weeks, including waterproofing cure time. We’ll give you a realistic timeline with your quote and keep you updated throughout.

Do you waterproof to New Zealand standards?

Yes. Marko is an approved PS3 author, and all wet areas are waterproofed to the New Zealand Building Code, with a Producer Statement available for eligible projects.

Do you tile before or after waterproofing?

Waterproofing always comes first and is allowed to cure fully before we tile. Skipping or rushing this step is the single most common cause of leaking bathrooms.

Can you tile over existing tiles or an old bathroom?

Sometimes — it depends on the condition of the substrate and waterproofing underneath. We’ll assess it honestly at the quote stage and recommend the right approach rather than the quickest one.

What tile sizes and types do you work with?

All of them — from small mosaics to large-format porcelain, marble and natural stone. Large-format and stone need precise cutting and setting, which is exactly where craftsmanship shows.

Do you supply the tiles, or do I?

Either. Many clients choose their own tiles (we’re happy to advise), or we can point you to trusted suppliers. We’ll always tell you what will work best for your space and budget.

Is your work guaranteed?

Yes — our tiling is backed by a 10-year workmanship guarantee, with manufacturer warranties on eligible waterproofing systems, and we’re fully insured.
