Outdoor Tiling in Auckland
Patios, entrances and pool surrounds tiled for grip, drainage and Auckland weather.
Outdoor tiling has to handle everything Auckland’s climate throws at it — rain, sun and constant temperature swings — and stay safe underfoot while it does. Tarara Tiling is a family-owned business led by Marko, a Croatian master tiler with over 15 years’ experience, tiling outdoor areas across Auckland to last.
Outdoor Tiling Built for Auckland Weather
Outdoor tiling is a different craft to indoor. Tiles have to be rated for outdoor use, laid on a properly prepared and drained base, and set with the right falls so water runs away rather than pooling. Get any of that wrong and you get lifting tiles, cracked grout or a slippery surface. We tile outdoor areas so they look sharp and stay sound through Auckland winters and summers alike.

Safe Underfoot, Sealed Where It Matters
Outside, grip matters. We help you choose tiles with the right slip rating for wet outdoor areas — around pools, on steps and on entrances — so the finish is safe as well as good-looking. And where an outdoor area sits over living space, a balcony or a deck, waterproofing is critical. As an approved PS3 waterproofing author, we can seal those substrates to the New Zealand Building Code before tiling, so water stays out of the structure below.
Built to Last, Fully Backed
Our outdoor tiling is backed by a 10-year workmanship guarantee. We’re certified installers with ARDEX, Mapei and Surtec, members of TANZ, the Tile Council and Site Safe, and fully covered by public liability insurance — trusted materials, installed to New Zealand industry standards.
Our Outdoor Tiling Process, Step by Step
Outdoor tiling has to shrug off Auckland weather — rain, damp and hard sun — and still be safe underfoot when it’s wet. That means the right tile, the right fall and a base that drains, not just a tidy finish. Here is an exterior floor being laid to fall, tile by tile.

1
Free quote & advice
we visit, assess the area and how it drains, and talk through tiles that suit the spot — slip resistance, colour and how they’ll wear outdoors.
2
Base check & prep
we make sure the substrate is sound, set to the right falls and draining away from the house — any soft spots or ponding are sorted before we tile.
3
Waterproofing (where needed)
balconies and decks over living space are waterproofed and sealed to code first, so water is kept out of the rooms below.
4
Setting the tiles
tiles are laid to the correct falls with slip-appropriate surfaces, cut cleanly around drains, steps and edges for a sharp, even finish.
5
Grouting & sealing
we finish with outdoor-grade grout built for movement and weather, then a proper clean-down so the area is ready to use.
6
Final walkthrough
we walk the finished area with you, check every edge and fall, and hand over an outdoor space that’s built to last — and we stand behind our work.
Done this way, an outdoor area looks the part and stands up to everything Auckland throws at it — safe when it’s wet, draining where it should, and sharp at every edge for years of use.

Outdoor Tiling FAQs
Do you do outdoor paving?
We specialise in outdoor tiling — porcelain and stone tiles laid on a prepared substrate — rather than laying pavers. If your project needs tiling over a patio, balcony, entrance or pool surround, that’s exactly what we do.
Which tiles are best for outdoor areas in Auckland?
Outdoor-rated porcelain is the most popular choice — it’s tough, low-maintenance and comes in slip-rated finishes. Natural stone is beautiful but needs sealing and the right care. We’ll recommend the best option for your area, exposure and budget.
Will outdoor tiles be slippery when wet?
Not if they’re the right tile. We help you choose a suitable slip rating for wet areas like pool surrounds, steps and entrances, so the surface stays safe underfoot.
Do balconies and decks need waterproofing before tiling?
Yes — any tiled outdoor area over living space needs to be waterproofed to the New Zealand Building Code first. As an approved PS3 author, we can handle that as part of the job.
Is your outdoor tiling guaranteed?
Yes — our work is backed by a 10-year workmanship guarantee, we use trusted, outdoor-rated materials, and we’re fully insured.
